Conducting

每一位学生都将从无与伦比的表演机会中受益,其中包括5场管弦乐音乐会、6场完整歌剧。学院也为学生们提供了世界级的教师、一流的专业指导、优秀的设施基础,为他们成就最高水平做最完整的准备。对于乐队指挥学生来说,课程将强调的是交响乐和歌剧的曲目,并且一周有三次排练机会。此外,学生们还可以自己准备专门的音乐会,并有机会担任管弦乐和歌剧演出的助理指挥。从学校毕业的优秀学生也已经在世界各地著名乐团中担任重要职位。

 

对于合唱指挥学生来说,每周也都会有和学校合唱团合作的机会。对于研究生专业学生来说,每学期都会举行一次音乐会,而博士专业学生则需要在两场音乐会中与大型唱诗班和管弦乐队合作。无论是研究生还是博士课程的学生都有机会成为学校合唱团助理指挥,进行排练、分组,甚至有时在教师的音乐会上工作。

 

学院也会定期邀请知名指挥家来学院开展大师班指导学生,其中包括:Matthew Halls、Simon Carrington、Vance George、Rollo Dilworth和Kurt Masur、Franz Welser-Möst、Carlos Kalmar、Giancarlo Guerrero、Bramwell Tovey等。

  现任指挥教师有:

Arthur Fagen

Arthur Fagen教授自2008年任教于印第安纳大学音乐学院,并在2010年开始担任亚特兰大歌剧院音乐总监。

他曾出现在世界上许多最具声望的音乐厅、歌剧院。1998年-2001年受维亚纳国家歌剧院邀请担任客座指挥,并与众多知名管弦乐团合作。

2002年-2007年,他担任多特蒙德爱乐乐团和多特蒙德歌剧院音乐总监,并受邀前往阿姆斯特丹音乐厅、布鲁塞尔艺术宫以及北京、上海进行演出。

 

Betsy Burleigh

先后在印第安纳大学和新英格兰音乐学院求学,并取得博士学位。

现为学院合唱指挥主任。

1998年-2009年,她担任克利夫兰交响乐团合唱助理指挥,2002年-2006年担任克利夫兰歌剧院合唱指挥,并担任了8年克利夫兰青年合唱团总监。

作为客座指挥家,她曾和匹兹堡交响乐团、the Akron Symphon等合作。

1994年-2010年,她在克利夫兰大学的合唱与声乐专业担任教授。

Applicants must submit a prescreening recording of a performance or rehearsal that displays their conducting proficiency.  In addition, please submit a repertoire list, clearly indicating the following:

1. Works conducted in performance (including date and group)

2. Works prepared (when and for whom)

3. Works assisted (when and for whom)

4. Works studied

5.Resumé/Curriculum-Vita

Invited applicants should prepare the following pieces for the personal conducting audition:

Beethoven, Symphony No. 2, Mvt 1

Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet (complete)

Copland, Appalachian Spring, #6-16 and #35-51.

Puccini, La Bohème, Act I, Rodolfo’s aria “Che gelida manina”

 

Wind Conducting:

Students interested in applying for graduate degrees in Wind Conducting must complete the online graduate application process.  In addition to this application, all candidates must submit a video recording of a rehearsal. The camera should be positioned so that comments made to the ensemble are very clear and audible and conducting gestures, body posture and facial expression easily seen. 

The recording should be approximately 20-30 minutes long. In addition, please include the following information in either your video recording or on a separate sheet: Name, Current Position, Brief Overview of Educational and Professional Background, and Detailed Information on the Works Rehearsed and Ensemble Being Rehearsed. The video recording must be submitted online.

Doctoral Students only: Submit a writing sample, either an analysis of a major wind band piece or an equivalent article based on some area of research applicable to wind band repertoire.
